Powerful Wedge-Tailed Eagle Design by John Mercanti

Obverse: A portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark graces the reverse for the final time. The monarch is shown wearing her Royal Diamond Diadem, earrings, and a necklace. Rim inscriptions include her name, "ELIZABETH II," the dates of her reign, "1952-2022," the issuing country's name, "AUSTRALIA," and the face value of the coin, "1 DOLLAR." Jody Clark works with the British Royal Mint. He is most famous for his Queen's Beasts designs, as well as his portraits of Queen Elizabeth II.

Reverse: John Mercanti's new wedge-tailed eagle design graces the reverse. The bird spreads its wings in flight while carrying a branch in its talons. The coin's name, "AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE," is inscribed on the rim frame, as are the date, "2023," and the coin's weight and purity, "1 OZ 9999 SILVER." John Mercanti was the US Mint's twelfth Chief Engraver. He has designed more medals and coins than anyone else in American history.

Nearly Perfect MS69 with Mercanti Signed Label

John Mercanti, the reverse designer, hand signed the label on which Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) provided its grade. That grade, Mint State 69, is given to coins that appear perfect to the naked eye.
